Our History


1973


P.D Pattern Books was founded in 1973 by Mr Dennis Shulver (father of the present chairman Mr Ian Shulver)


The company originated in Barkerend Mills, close to Bradford City centre


The workforce at this time totalled around ten to twelve employees


The company's first customer was Greenwood & Coope Limited who continue to be a major customer today



1982


Continued expansion of the business necessitates a search for larger premises



1983


Stonehall Mills along with the cottages in the mill yard was purchased from Carrington Viyella



1984


Production was transferred from the old mill to the new Stonehall site



2005


Further development prompted the opening of a second production facility in the locality



2011


Still working hard and expanding as the UK's leading sample book maker



2013


Increasing demand for shade cards and other board mounted presentations led to significant investment in new machinery and staffing levels.


Building History


The mill is known locally as Whiteley's mills as it was once owned by Thomas Whiteley and Co.


Richard Whiteley (formally of Countdown fame) a descendant of Thomas Whiteley was a frequent visitor to the mill.
